Let me tell you about one of my heroes. He is a physician. In fact, he was a very successful surgeon in a large metropolitan hospital, and he taught surgery at one of the finest medical schools in the country. Obviously, he was quite successful. But God began to work in his heart leading this doctor and his family to the mission field. Today, this man is a veteran missionary doctor who is leading a team other medical doctors in missionary health services all around the world.
He left his successful and profitable practice because he knew that God wanted him on the mission field. He and his family had everything the world could offer: money, material possessions, prestige, and the respect of his peers. Yet this family walked away from all of that in a commitment to do what God wanted them to do. Is it any wonder I refer to him as one of my heroes?
I am still working on that bibliography for youth workers, and I’d love to gather input from various youth workers around the globe. What are you reading? And what are the “must read” books for other youth workers? Of course, the Bible would be on top of all our lists, but after that, what books would you recommend to other youth workers? Please send me your list at mwalker@garbc.org or post your recommendations in our Notebook. I will post the completed list in future issues of this newsletter. Thanks for your help.
