HOW TO GET TEENAGERS TO COME TO SUNDAY SCHOOL
May 30th, 2006SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS OF A “STUDENT-FRIENDLY” SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
In the last issue of this newsletter, I presented some basic reasons why Sunday School is a relevant, viable, effective, and even essential ingredient of today’s local church youth ministry. I believe that Sunday School can be a culturally effective, age-based opportunity to creatively teach the life-changing truth of God’s Word. Yes, I’m a big fan of the Sunday School.
I’m thankful for the readers who took the time to post responses to that last newsletter. Here’s a comment from one Sunday School teacher: “I agree that Sunday School is as important today as ever! Thanks for the reminder! Now, how do we get our youth and adults back in Sunday School? As a teacher I find no one there to teach, parents aren’t bringing their kids out.”
Thanks, Ann, for responding. I want to follow-up that question by listing seven characteristics of what I call a “student-friendly” Sunday School class. In other words, how do you get teenagers to want to come to Sunday School? I really believe that if you implement the following seven suggestions into the fabric of your Sunday School class, your students will want to be involved on a regular basis. In fact, I will be so bold as to say that these simple ideas will work for any age group in any size church.
